The CHF Kenya Country Director and L-PATH Chief of Party will direct the implementation and oversee all management aspects of CHF's large HIV/AIDS program in Kenya. The CD/CoP will serve as principal liaison with implementing partners, donors, and host government counterparts on all matters related to the program. Successful candidates must demonstrate breadth and depth of technical expertise and experience in management, design and implementation of complex family planning, reproductive health and community level service delivery programs or components

- Oversee the management of all CHF's programs operating in Kenya by supervising and leading the in-country technical and administrative staff;
- Ensure that program goals and objectives are met within the agreed upon time-frame and within the budget;
- Ensure that program activities and operations are consistent with the scope of the grant and in full compliance with USG rules and regulations and governing contracts;
- Monitor and report on progress toward meeting objectives and make program design corrections as needed; Ensure high-quality programming that demonstrates CHF International's commitment to community development and sustainability;
- Maintain collaborative relations with other partners, the host government, and the donor;
- Work collaboratively with CDC/Kenya Technical Advisors to ensure program activities are of the highest possible quality and incorporate current evidence based practices;
- Ensure high standards in meeting financial management accountability and transparency;
- Conduct regular visits to partner organizations and other activity sites to evaluate quality of programming at the end-beneficiary level;
- Expand the image of CHF International in Kenya;
- Seek out opportunities for future funding both within the realm of Health/HIV as well as other CHF Core Program areas;
- Participate in CHF's Health/HIV Community of Practice; Provide input to CHF's vision and planning for the expansion of health-related programming;

Job Description


Position: Project Assistant – Dadaab Refugee Camp

FilmAid International (FilmAid) invites applications from qualified Kenyans to fill the above position. The position, based in Dadaab, will report to the Dadaab Project Officer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Programme
- Work with the Dadaab Project Officer and other project staff to ensure that objectives of the Dadaab project are met.
- Work with other agencies, community leaders, representatives and organized youth and participatory theater groups in drafting relevant health messages for dissemination in the Dadaab refugee camps.
- Coordinate the scripting of the short videos by liaising with the script writer, the community, the Project Officer, the Program Coordinator and other relevant staff
- Ensure a participatory approach in the development of short videos on health and other issues
- Together with the project Officer, ensure that final video products are to the satisfactory standards and are approved by project staff and the advisory committee
- Develop discussion guides for the videos produced and train facilitators in the use of the guides
- Participate in the drafting of information dissemination plans for Dadaab.
- Assist the Project Officer in coordinating dissemination activities.
- Work closely with the Project Officer in providing regular updates of the production and dissemination through quantitative and qualitative reports.
- Work with the field staff in keeping accurate statistics of daytime and evening screening attendances
- Monitor and collect feedback on production and dissemination activities.
- Act as the liaison between FilmAid, the refugee community and other agencies in Dadaab on issues pertaining to information dissemination activities in Dadaab. (Project Officer)
- Be familiar with both FilmAid and the Kenya Codes of conduct.

Administration
- Provide administrative and logistical support for the production and dissemination activities in Dadaab
- Ensure that FilmAid screening and other equipment are safely and properly stored
- Be responsible for the well being of FilmAid equipment in the field
- Act as Officer in Charge in the absence of the Project Officer
- Perform any other duties as may be required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

1. Degree or diploma in community development, community video / arts or social sciences
2. Experience in community video or other community media, mobilization and outreach
3. Should be a skilled facilitator
4. Experience in working with refugee communities or rural communities
5. Should possess good interpersonal skills
6. Should be culturally sensitive and able to work with diverse cultures
7. Must be computer literate with excellent knowledge of Microsoft windows office packages
8. Ability to work with minimum supervision
9. Committed to Humanitarian principles and action
10. Knowledge of Somali language and culture is an added advantage
11. Video facilitation skills an added advantage

Darfur Stoves Consultant

Job Description

Darfur Stoves Consultant (1384)

Objective: is to conduct gap analysis to assess the current state of the stoves project, currently operating in Darfur, Sudan, and recommend next steps for production design and suggest intervention strategies for technical and programmatic improvement.

Background: The Darfur Stoves Project is part of a larger OFDA funded program, which has been in operation since 2005. CHF is producing and distributing highly energy efficient stoves to vulnerable Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs) in the Darfur region.

Activities and Tasks: CHF is looking for a mechanical engineer with a strong technical production background in design and mass production of fuel efficiency stoves in a complex conflict setting. The candidate must have experience in designing, planning, and producing in difficult environments. The candidate must possess flexibility to quickly change path and apply corrective measures if they arise. Ability to customize and tailor scientific models to the Darfur cultural context is an addition.

The candidate must have at least 5 years in the field of international development, some Africa experience is preferred. A prior experience in stoves production is preferred. In addition, financial oversight to cost effective spending balanced with units of production targeted in a limited time frame is required. CHF is looking for a candidate who works well with national staff to solicit their local knowledge and input to enhance design and boost production. The second phase of this project entails marketing of the stoves within the Darfurian communities; a candidate who can provide creative innovative ideas to promote the stoves within the targeted communities is preferred. A social marketing ability is a plus.

Arabic language skills is a plus but not required.

Technical Officer

Location: Sudan (Malakal)

Job Description

Malaria Consortium (MC) is an international organisation working primarily in Africa and Asia on communicable disease control. MC works closely with Ministries of Health (MoH) and partners and is involved in all aspects of malaria control, from policy and strategy development to implementation, monitoring and evaluation. MC also works on tuberculosis control and other communicable diseases, including neglected tropical diseases. The head office is in London, UK and the Africa Regional Office is in Kampala, Uganda. In 2006, MC opened an office in Juba, Southern Sudan. The Malaria Consortium is expanding activities in Southern Sudan and opened an office in Malakal, Upper Nile, in August 2007 to support the control of visceral leishmaniasis (kala-azar), malaria case management and the distribution of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) in Jonglei state. Kala-azar activities will initially focus on northern Jonglei and support to Malakal Teaching Hospital.

Purpose of job:
To implement MC’s programme of activities on kala-azar and malaria control in northern Jonglei and Upper Nile, and provide technical support to implementing partners where necessary. This will include the following:

1. To provide training to PHCU and PHCC staff on kala-azar diagnosis
2. To assist in the implementation of a KAP survey
3. To work with the country and regional teams to develop health education materials and activities, based on results from the KAP survey
4. To deliver health education to target communities
5. To oversee the distribution of LLINs to target communities
6. To carry out monitoring and evaluation activities (M&E) related to kala-azar and malaria
7. To assist in the preparation of the findings from M&E activities for publication in the form of donor reports and, potentially, international peer-reviewed journals
8. To ensure regular communication and liaison between implementing partners and the MC office in Juba
9.To represent MC at meetings and workshops
10.To work with the country and regional team to develop new funding applications and programmes for further work involving the MC Malakal office.

Location: The post will be based at the MC office in Malakal and will involve travel to Old Fangak, Korfulus and Atar counties, and potentially to counties in Upper Nile. Periodic travel to Juba and Kampala.

Experience, skills and qualifications

Essential
- Qualifications – Medical Doctor, RGN with tropical nursing certificate or equivalent public health qualification
- A minimum of two years relevant experience on communicable disease control and recent clinical practise
- Excellent organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Excellent written and spoken English
Desirable
- Familiarity with vector-borne disease control programmes, particularly related to leishmaniasis
- A good understanding of health systems, particularly in the area of delivery
- Social science skills
- Working knowledge of Arabic

Job Description

Reporting To: Field Health Coordinator
Contract Length 12 Months, with an initial probationary period of 6 months.

General Description of the Role:
This position exists under the Health and Nutrition Program. The overall objective of the program is to provide safe, effective nutrition services, targeting the most important causes of illness and death among the refugee population.
The main purpose of this position is to strengthen the Nutrition services offered to moderate and severely malnourished children under 5 years, pregnant and lactating women in GTZ ’s PHC programme. GTZ is currently in the process of implementing a Community-based Therapeutic Care (CTC) approach to manage malnutrition in Dadaab. This position demands both the technical knowledge and the work experience, needed to coordinate a nutrition programme. The nutrition coordinator will be responsible for ensuring management of the nutrition programme are executed in line with international humanitarian standards and donor guidelines with the assistance of the GTZ management team. This position demands an ability to manage, organise and support all aspects of the programme; including other agency liaison, training and supervising local staff.

Key Duties:

Programme
- To be fully conversant with all relevant project proposals and ensure that all project activities are implemented in line with the project proposals
- To maintain responsibility for all nutrition activities in GTZ PHC programme
- To monitor and evaluate nutrition activities and adapt interventions, as necessary, in line with MoH and UNICEF/WHO guidelines.
- Develop effective ways in which to improve coverage in the programme area
- Carry out focus group discussions, nutrition surveys and KAP assessments and analyse data collected
- To manage and support the nutrition programme manager in the execution of their duties and conduct performance appraisals at the appropriate time
- To oversee the daily activities of the nutrition programme in coordination with the Field

Health Coordinator
- To work with senior nutritionist/ national staff to develop their supervision, training and management skills
- To collect, analyze and report data relating to all nutrition activities

Training
- To assess the training needs of nutrition staff and develop a training programme to meet these needs.
- Oversee the implementation of the training programme

Coordination
- To liaise with UNHCR, WFP, UNICEF and other agencies to ensure appropriate provision of service and use of resources
- To keep the Programme Manager and the Field Health Coordinator appraised of all activities and any difficulties that may arise

Administration
- To assist in compiling Project Proposals with the Field Health Coordinator and the Programme Manager
- To assist in compiling the nutrition activities inputs to project reports for GTGZ country Progarmme and the donors, with assistance from the appropriate staff
- Maintain proper systems of filing and ensure that the field office has all relevant technical material on site

General
- Discuss and agree any changes in programming or project arrangements (including guidelines, protocols and procedures) with the Field Health Coordinator and the Progarmme Manager prior to implementation

- To work at all times in a manner that promotes teamwork with in GTZ and assists in the achievement of GTZ’s programme aims
- To assist with the organization and hosting of Donor field visits where relevant to the Nutrition programme
- All other duties as instructed by the Field Health Coordinator or Programme Manager
