Program description: This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the program has a vacancy in the GAP Branch, HIV/AIDS Care and Treatment Project.
POSITION: Helpdesk Assistant
LOCATION: Position is based in Nairobi
EDUCATION: Bachelors in Computer Science or Information Systems Management.
Microsoft Certified Professional, Microsoft Office User Specialist desirable.
LANGUAGE: Fluency in both English and Swahili, written and spoken.
EXPERIENCE: Experience in providing user support including installing, configuring and troubleshooting MS Office suite of applications. (The above must be in a LAN and internet-enabled environment).
Experience in working with Reference Manager or other document management software is highly desirable. Windows 2000/2003 Server, Exchange Server and ISA Server administration in an Enterprise Environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.
Fluency in both oral and written English language.
Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team.
Ability to work within laid down standard operating procedures.
Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
Ability to communicate well with users concerning their problem. Ability to solve problems in a stressful situation, for demanding users, under time pressure and sometimes with no help from colleagues nearby.
Basic Functions:
Reporting to the Helpdesk Manager, Nairobi, the incumbent shall provide software technical support for the CDC Nairobi network.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain a database of references using Reference Manager.
Be the primary technical support resource for desktop application software installations, patches, upgrades and configuration/change management.
Identify user challenges with software and train the users or recommend appropriate training.
Be the lead in office automation in the Nairobi LAN.
Other Duties:-
May be required to assist in support out of the office and outside normal working hours.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Helpdesk Manager, Nairobi.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Contract for 1 year, renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.

Program Description: This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the program has a vacancy in the BASE Project, ICT department.

Position: Manager, Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Location: Kisumu
Education: Must have Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field; MCSE (Windows 200x) and CCNA also required.
Experience: Must have at least three years experience in managing a Microsoft Windows Server network including Active directory, Group policy and Exchange server with over 200 users in multiple buildings or locations connected with Cisco routers (MAN/WAN). Experience in using enterprise software for backup and anti virus management, and using network monitoring/management tools also required.
Experience in creating and/or implementing ICT Standard operating procedures and policies, managing telephone, VHF and HF radio systems and handling the logistics of ICT infrastructure management is added advantage.

Skills and Abilities:
Must be a team player and team builder.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Computer System Management: Assist and actively take part in managing the CDC Kisumu computer (LAN) network including servers, printers and other peripherals wired and wireless network connectivity, central file storage systems, Email systems, Backup systems.
Supervision: Supervising the staff on both hardware and software. General supervision and Technical direction provided by ICT Chief, CDC Kenya and the East African Technical Service Engineer from CDC Atlanta.
Planning: Think and act proactively with respect to all systems and procedures. Provide advice and input in decision on possible problems, future needs etc.
Troubleshooting: Look proactively for issues that can go wrong and works towards a solution before they become a problem. Play leading role in troubleshooting and solving any problems that might arise.
Other systems: Manage CDC IP telephony systems. Provide guidance and direction to Helpdesk staff and other colleagues of the ICT Branch with respect to technical and procedurals issues.

Terms of Employment:
Contract for 1 year, renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months.
Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.
