1. Public Health Educator
Intermediate Technology Development Group Ltd (also known as “Practical Action”) is an international development agency working with poor communities to help them choose and use technology to improve their lives today and in generations to come.
Due to our increasing scale of work, we are seeking to recruit a results-oriented strategic thinker and proactive team player to fill the above position which will be based in Nairobi. Reporting to the Area Coordinator, the successful candidate will design, plan and implement Public Health Educational Programmes in the urban slums. This will also involve training and awareness creation among Water & Environmental Health Practitioners.
Key Responsibilities
Develop participatory training models for water and environmental health systems with communities
Develop interactive communication tools for schools, CBOs, NGOs and individuals
Identify key partners and stakeholders in the water and environmental health sectors within the Programme area and assist in building their capacity
Identify, integrate and coordinate social and economic components of water and environmental health in urban areas
Guide the information collection for water and environmental health pre-project planning
Synthesize and document information relating to education aspects of projects and share the same with project partners
Actively participate in appraisal, monitoring and evaluation of the project
Participate in the development of proposals and fundraising activities
Assist in marketing of Programme activities, outputs and objectives nationally and internationally.
Qualifications & skills
Bachelors degree in Public Health discipline
Minimum two years experience working with communities on training issues
Field experience of child modelings,animations and creative interactions, community and child-focused training
Good understanding of child, gender and poverty issues
Experience in community-based development processes
Excellent verbal and written communication skills both in English and Kiswahili
Proficiency in MS Office applications
Willingness to work in urban slums.

3. LIVELIHOODS PROGRAMME MANAGER (Ref: 211/06-07)
Profile required:
Local person or with a deep knowledge of Sudan
University degree, preferably in Agriculture, Agroforestry, Agricultural Extension, Rural development, Pastoralist Groups, Rural Economy or any related field.
Three years experience in international cooperation (development or humanitarian), two of which in a coordinating position.
Specific experience in educational management, technical/organisational capacity building and training of trainers will be a plus. Proven ability to make complex technical information accessible and usable by people with basic educational background.

Profile required:
University degree, preferably in topics related to humanitarian aid.
Three years experience in a similar humanitarian position, two of which in a management role.

Knowledge of the socio-political context of Southern Sudan, or eventually Eastern and Central African context, will be advantageous.

Ability to work under pressure
Knowledge and attention to gender aspects within humanitarian programmes

The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), a private, non-profit organization that conducts policy-oriented research focusing on gender and development issues seeks a Social and Public Health Demographer to undertake and further develop the team’s evaluation work on girls’ and women’s empowerment, as well as on the broader programmatic research that the team is undertaking on gender, population and development issues. Incumbent will work as a leader or team member with other staff.
As the Public Health Demographer, you will work as a leader or team member with other staff on technical and management responsibility for projects.. You will provide technical support to specific partners, including conceptual and instrument design, program design, research training and capacity building, data management and analysis, and dissemination of project results in presentations, reports, and published papers. You will be responsible for project staff management, partnership engagement, and budgetary management and participate in the development of proposals and the team’s fundraising activities.
Our ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.g., demography, public health, sociology, economics) or related field and three (3) to five (5) years post-doctoral experience to include a strong substantive background in gender as it relates to population, reproductive health, poverty, and broader development issues. Strong exposure to on-the-ground interventions and to the challenges of program implementation and evaluation is required. Specific experience in field research, exposure to evaluation research, survey methodologies and implementation required. Experience in management of projects and on-the-ground work on field-based programs in India or other parts of South Asia is essential..
Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills are essential, to include a proficiency in one or more of the following statistical software: SPSS, STATA, ATLAS, as well as widely-known research measures (e.g., ARRM, HBM, etc). You must have strong written and verbal communication and presentation abilities and proven ability to work collaboratively with professionals at different levels, including colleagues, partners, and donor organizations. Fundraising and networking abilities highly desirable.

Responsibilities ILRI would like to recruit a postdoctoral scientist as part of a team working with forage genetic resources conservation and use to carry out research on characterization and regeneration of forage germplasm under phase 2 of the World Bank funded project on rehabilitation of global public goods in the CGIAR genetic resources system, and who will specifically:
• Assess diversity and develop criteria for characterization of tropical forages
• Manage data collection for characterization of a wide range of tropical forages
• Analyse data and prepare scientific publications on the diversity in the forage collection and augment the information posted on the forage diversity web site
• Supervise technicians in the technical aspects of regeneration and seed processing of tropical forages
• Collate data and augment the database on breeding systems and regeneration methods for tropical forages
• Implement research on breeding systems in tropical forages
Core competencies Education
• A PhD degree obtained in forage agronomy, germplasm management, characterization or a related field Work experience
